Winter Murray Cod
Across Australia the colder months make for the perfect time to target BIG Murray Cod, especially in the many impoundments these iconic species call home.
With smaller fish becoming less active due to low water temperatures the larger fish are still well and truely active.
Large cod still need to feed to sustain their mass. Finding areas that hold bait such as Roach, Redfin or Trout is the first step to targeting these hungry impoundment giants.
Fish extra slow and don’t be afraid to fish large lures. There’s no such thing as too big. 8-12 inch lures are comfortable to fish using a swim baiting outfit and are often the undoing of Big Murray Cod.
We recommend fishing a large bait casting outfit, 200-300 sized Bait casting reel loaded with 40-60lb braided line with a 50-80lb leader or 30lb straight through fluorocarbon line.
Lures such as Megabass Magdraft 8 or 10inch, jackal Gigantarels, BIWAA Kapsiz 300 and Irukandji Sicario 9 and 12 inch are all super effective.
