Whether it be the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast or further north the winter Trevally run in Queensland estuaries can be some of the most string pulling fun that fishing has to offer.
Over the colder months many Trevally species move in from offshore to the many river systems and canals up and down the coast. Small to medium sized GT, Big eye, Golden, Diamond and Cale can be found in big numbers!
Fishing clean saline water towards river entrances as well as areas with good tidal flow are typically the preferred areas these fish like to hold up.
Finding areas that hold good amounts of bait whether it be mullet, herring or even smaller micro baitfish is key as Trevally will not be far away.
Small soft plastics are a stand out when targeting Trevally. 2-4 inch paddle tails such as Keitech Easy Shiners and Holt Productions Swim Prawns are deadly when fished on a light weight jig head. An extremely slow roll with either of these lures or a a slow hop and pause retrieve on the bottom will usually entice a bite.
