How to Setup a Bubble Float Rig

Mastering the bubble float rig is a game-changer for freshwater anglers targeting species like trout and redfin. This guide walks you through setting up a versatile and adjustable rig using water-filled bubble floats, silicon stoppers, and bait holder hooks. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned fisher, this setup offers natural bait presentation and easy depth control for more effective fishing.

🎣 Setting Up a Bubble Float Rig

1. Filling the Bubble Float

  • Partially fill the bubble float with water to add casting weight.
    • Half-filled: The float sits lower in the water.
    • Three-quarters filled: The float sits even lower.
  • Be cautious not to overfill, as this can cause the float to sink.

2. Attaching the Float to the Line

  • Thread your main fishing line through one side of the float and out the other.
  • Use silicone float stoppers to fix the float’s position on the line.
    • These stoppers prevent the float from sliding and allow depth adjustment

3. Using Silicone Float Stoppers

  • Each stopper set typically has three rows with small loops at the end.
  • To attach:
    • Pass your main line through the loop on the stopper.
    • Slide the stopper onto your line by pulling it from the loop.
    • Avoid removing stoppers directly from the loop without threading onto a line, as they are difficult to re-thread.

4. Securing the Float

  • After positioning the float, add another stopper below it to prevent downward movement.
  • This setup keeps the float fixed, ensuring consistent bait depth.

5. Adjusting Depth

  • Slide the float stoppers up or down the line to set the desired depth between the float and the hook.
  • This allows for quick adjustments based on fishing conditions.

6. Attaching the Hook

  • After setting up the float and stoppers, trim any kinked sections of the line.
  • Tie on your preferred hook size based on the bait:
    • Size 6 bait holder hook for worms.
    • Smaller sizes (10 or 14) for mudeyes or maggots.
    • Larger sizes (1 or 2) for bigger freshwater baits.

7. Final Adjustments

  • Ensure the float is sitting correctly on the water surface.
  • Adjust the water level inside the float if necessary to achieve the desired buoyancy.
  • The rig is now ready for casting to your desired location.
