CAT’S PAW KNOT TUTORIAL

In this video, Casey explains how to tie a CATS PAW KNOT.

Introduction

Good day guys, Casey here from Lured In Fishing.
Today I’d like to show you a really simple connection for attaching a loop of nylon to a piece of dacron or a braided loop—especially when using a wind-on leader.
This knot, called the Cat’s Paw, is perfect for connecting your doubled line to your dacron loop.

Step 1 – Join the Loops

  • Take your loop of nylon and pass it through your loop of dacron.
  • Pull through the remainder of your dacron line (or your wind-on leader if attached).
  • Pull it down slightly to create space for the next step.

Step 2 – First Pass

  • Take the nylon loop and pass it back through the dacron loop.
  • Insert two fingers into the nylon loop to hold it open.
  • Pull the dacron line through the nylon loop.

Step 3 – Second Pass

  • Repeat the same process:
    1. Pass the nylon loop back through the dacron loop.
    2. Hold the nylon loop open with two fingers.
    3. Pull the dacron line through.

Step 4 – Third Pass

  • Repeat the process a third and final time:
    1. Pass the nylon loop back through the dacron loop.
    2. Hold open with two fingers.
    3. Pull the dacron line through.

Step 5 – Tighten the Knot

  • Make sure both loops are even with no slack on either side.
  • Lubricate the knot to reduce friction.
  • Pull everything together gently, then snug it down firmly to form the Cat’s Paw.

Final Result

You now have a strong, reliable Cat’s Paw knot—ideal for connecting a dacron loop or wind-on leader to a doubled nylon line. move naturally and helps prevent bibbed lures from veering to one side.
